The Syracuse Orange had a couple of moves over the weekend. First, the Orange hired Sean Ryan to be the new quarterbacks coach. Ryan has had extensive experience working in a variety of roles in both college
and the NFL. He spent a number of years on the staff of Syracuse alum Tom Coughlin and has also worked with Carolina, Houston and Miami in a variety of roles. He’ll be tasked with preparing the signal-callers this spring.
Syracuse ‘s staff now sets up like this (h/t to Christian):
HC: Fran Brown
1. OC/RB Jeff Nixon
2. QB Sean Ryan
3. WR Josh Gattis
4. TE/Co-OC Michael Johnson Sr.
5. OL Juan Castillo
6. DC Vince Kehres (probably LB)
7. DL/AHC/Co-DC John Scott Jr.
8. Edge Jeremy Hawkins
9. DB Perry Eliano
10. ST Alex Bayer
Over the last few days we learned that tight end Michael Smith was having a change of heart and wanted to return to South Carolina. Reports indicated that Syracuse wasn’t going to release him and then on Saturday we saw this report:
No one’s really sure how this went down but Smith joins Darrell Gill and Johntay Cook at Ole Miss. Will the trio be catching passes from Trinidad Chambliss next year? Is Syracuse done adding or losing players? Your guess is as good as ours as it sure seems like there truly are no rules…or at least no one’s worried about them.
