The Carolina Panthers, having played on Thursday Night, are off today. They are using this time to get a little lighter on the defensive staff and, hopefully, to get a little healthier everywhere else. That doesn’t mean, however, that they have nothing at stake today. Their current first place standing in the NFC South (yes, we’re still talking about the playoffs after a two-game losing streak) is at risk. If that Atlanta Falcons top the Tampa Bay Buccaneers then the Panthers would drop to second
place by a game in the division, with over half the season left to play.
The New Orleans Saints are currently on their bye week, not that they have much current relevance to the division standings at 2-5. Still, this is the NFC South. We have to keep an eye on them lest they somehow make it back in the running for a four-way tie at the end of the season.
