It is easy to feel a distinct frustration at how Chelsea FC managed to sneak a better deal in loaning Nicholas Jackson to Bayern Munich through the club’s delay. A few days before the end of the transfer window, Bayern had agreed a €15 million loan fee for Chelsea FC for Jackson with an option to buy. Then Chelsea striker Liam Delap got injured and Chelsea initially pulled the plug on the deal. It was revived on deadline day, but the Bavarians ended up paying a €16.5 million loan fee with a potential
obligation to buy. Somehow, the whole ordeal ended up benefitting the Blue co-owned club.
Still, according to Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), it may still not have hurt Bayern much. The Bavarians did not have to pay more money up front despite the loan fee because of Jackson:
After Chelsea raised the loan fee from €15m to €16.5m, Nicolas Jackson in return waived part of the payment due to him in order to facilitate the negotiations and so Bayern don’t end up having to pay more
Don’t feel too bad for Jackson or his agency, though. Said agency was all too happy to brag about the “ground-breaking”and “world record” deal immediately on its’ LinkedIn page. It seems like the notoriety of the move makes them happy enough.
