Ranger Suarez will toe the rubber for the third time since being placed on the injured list, with his last two outings lasting just 4.2 innings and 4.0 innings, respectively,
against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays. It’s expected that he’ll be given a longer leash moving forward with innings becoming an issue for Payton Tolle and Jake Bennett.
Willson Contreras will get the day off after being removed from Wednesday’s game with an illness, with Nick Sogard sliding over to first base and being replaced at second base by Anthony Seigler. Red Sox manager Chad Tracy won’t make any other personnel changes.
Luis Castillo will make his first start since being acquired from the Seattle Mariners on Monday, carrying a 5.06 ERA over from his time in the Pacific Northwest.
Brenton Doyle, Joey Bart, Luisangel Acuña, and Randall Grichuk will enter the lineup for the Southsiders. Sam Antonacci, Andrew Benintendi, Tristan Peters, and Drew Romo will depart.
The Red Sox will move on to host the Sacramento Athletics over the weekend at Fenway Park.
