The leadership of the Florida State Seminoles has finally had enough. News broke earlier today that Head Coach Mike Norvell was fired along with defensive coordinator Tony White. The house cleaning continues to break as On3’s Peter Nakos is now reporting that safeties coach Evan Cooper has also been dismissed.
Cooper joined the Seminoles in December of 2024 as part of White’s initial staff. Cooper previously coached with White at Nebraska. In his first season with the Seminoles, Cooper helped guide
the Florida State secondary to second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in total passing yards. This season has been a different story for the Seminoles defense, with the secondary fluctuating in the bottom half of the conference.
The Florida State defense has routinely seen players setting up in the wrong position, taking bad angles, and looking generally lost on the field. Under the guidance of White and Cooper, FSU carries a PFF national ranking in total defense of 128th. The defense may still struggle for the remainder of the season, but the overhaul is a step in the right direction.
