On Sunday evening in Orlando Florida, the Baseball Hall of Fame revealed the results of the 2025 Contemporary Baseball Era Committee’s ballot to see who would get a trip through this particular method.
Of the eight players who were eligible to make it in, Dale Murphy was on the ballot. Granted, Murphy was a long shot and had always ben a long shot for the Hall even when he was on the BBWAA ballot but there was still at least a little bit of hope that he could make it in.
Unfortunately, Dale Murphy will once again have to wait for another chance down the road, as the Committee announced that the only player who got more than 12 votes was former NL MVP Jeff Kent. The former Mets and Giants star second baseman will be heading to the Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class.
Carlos Delgado was second in the voting but missed out by three votes. Dale Murphy only got half of the votes he needed, as his six votes were ix fewer than what he needed for induction. Don Mattingly also got six votes and everybody else on the ballot (including Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens) got five votes or fewer.
Depending on how much stock you placed into Dale Murphy’s chances this time around, this is either a disappointment or just another bump on the road. Either way, Dale’s got a ton of fans in his corner who likely won’t give up stumping for Murphy until he’s exhausted all of his chances at getting in. So while Murphy may not be entering Cooperstown, he’s still a beloved part of Braves Country and the franchise as a whole.
