Time does move on and things blend together. So while we all remember that Mike Krzyzewski won a lot of games (1,202) we forget the game where he became the all-time winningest coach with 903, passing his mentor, Bob Knight. That was against Michigan State in 2011 in Madison Square Garden. Win #1000 was also in MSG, against St. John’s, in 2015.
This was the team that would go on to win the national championship that spring.
You may not fully remember, or might have forgotten, that Rasheed Sulaimon
was on that team and played in this game. Later of course, Krzyzewski removed him from the team and Duke went on to win the national championship with an eight-man rotation.
In this game, Grayson Allen, who would become a key factor in the finals, played only three minutes.
It’s nice to see the comeback here – Duke was down to the Johnies and ripped off an 18-2 run to pull ahead.
You can also see the basic outlines of a championship team emerging, although Allen, at this point, was almost entirely unknown except to Duke fans.
