In less than two weeks, the 2026 NFL Draft will begin, and fans of the Kansas City Chiefs have as much reason to tune in early as they’ve had in over a decade.
Holding the No. 9 pick, the organization has a chance to send a jolt of excitement through Chiefs Kingdom with the selection.
It will be hard to beat the reaction many had to the first pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. That’s certainly how I feel,
as the memory of jumping up and down with my best friend and late father after Kansas City traded up to select quarterback Patrick Mahomes with pick No. 10 can never be beat.
My Dad, a long-time Chiefs fan, waited over 30 years to see his team take a quarterback with the first pick after the disappointment of 1983 draft pick Todd Blackledge’s career. He didn’t care what name came after hearing “quarterback.” He had a feeling the move meant there were championship seasons on the horizon.
What are your favorite memories among the draft-night reactions you’ve had over the years?
