The Buffalo Bills selected a traits-based wide receiver at 125 in Skyler Bell and immediately followed it up with a similar mold at linebacker at pick 126 with linebacker Kaleb Elarms-Orr out of TCU.
He didn’t start playing football until high school and was transitioned into a full-time linebacker at Cal in 2023 where he had immediate production. Elarms-Orr has an exciting athletic package and attacks to the ball with a quickness. This is still very much a moldable player despite turning 23 years
old before the season begins.
Much of what Elarms-Orr needs to improve at have to do with taking on blocks and understanding that component of the game. He’s going to need a continued refinement to take on contact head-on instead of relying only on his athleticism to make plays. He’s also more of a see and react player versus reading keys and playing instinctual football. That certainly could have to do with his relative inexperience at the position.
Overall, it’s a day general manager Brandon Beane and company have used to bet on traits. That’s typically a smart way to select at this portion of the draft. Elarms-Orr is a player that can potentially carve a role out sooner than later.
