The hype around the first year of new Rutgers women’s basketball head coach Gary Redus II’s tenure is alive and well, as the program has announced that it has broken its previous season ticket sales record on X, and the season is still months away!
The new age has brought a lot of excitement to the Rutgers faithful as they hope to see a return to the dominance the program has shown in the past.
The team has revitalized its roster this offseason, with Redus using its improved NIL structure and the transfer portal to make a few big splashes in an effort to help rebuild the team. In total, the Scarlet Knights have brought in 6 transfers, four of whom have starting experience at the Power 4 level, including Zennia Thomas, who started a few games at Kentucky before transferring out and helping lead a non-Power Four school, Howard, to the NCAA tournament.
In addition to landing Thomas, Rutgers has also landed former Tennessee guards Mia and Mya Pauldo. These twins were among some of the most hyped women’s basketball recruits to come out of New Jersey when they committed to Tennessee last off-season. Now they both return to Rutgers to represent their home state.
In addition to these three, the Knights have added Fatima Diakhate, an experienced forward who made 27 starts in her junior campaign last year at PITT, Jaylah Lampley, a sophomore guard who saw significant playing time her freshman season at Mississippi State, and Mary Akinde, a promising forward who is making the jump up to the Big Ten from the community college ranks.
