It’s the last week of Music City Miracles’ Tennessee Titans 2026 NFL Free Agency Primer. The negotiating window period begins on March 9th, but the Titans are able to re-sign their own free agents before then. General manager Mike Borgonzi is equipped with more than $100 million in cap space and will collaborate with new head coach Robert Saleh on their shared vision for the 2026 Titans.
The Titans are currently scheduled to possess 29 free agents (19 unrestricted), including several key starters
and role players. We’re continuing to take an in-depth look at each free agent and provide arguments for why the Titans should, or shouldn’t re-sign that player. We’ll also offer our final verdict and a prediction to go along with our analysis.
Today, we’re analyzing wide receiver Van Jefferson.
Why the Titans should re-sign Jefferson
Jefferson was the most reliable veteran receiver on the 2025 Titans after they cut Tyler Lockett midseason. Jefferson was respectable, recording 29 receptions for 350 yards and a touchdown. Cam Ward could rely on the veteran to run savvy routes with good anticipation and timing.
Why the Titans should let Jefferson walk
The Titans arguably had the worst wide receiver room in the league during the 2025 season and Jefferson contributed to that. The Titans need to surround Ward with significantly more talent at the pass-catching positions in his sophomore campaign. Borgonzi should be aiming way higher than what Jefferson can provide at this point.
Projected Contract
Spotrac projects Jefferson to sign a one-year contract in free agency worth $2.2 million. That’s a slight $600,000 raise from the one-year, $1.6 million deal the Titans inked him to last offseason. It’s safe to assume Jefferson would be available on a similar contract.
Final verdict
The Titans should not re-sign Jefferson. Borgonzi is equipped with more than $100 million in cap space. They need to aggressively pursue upgrades at wide receiver this offseason, both via free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft. Jefferson is a back-end camp WR.
Prediction
The Titans won’t re-sign Jefferson. They’ll target upgrades at wide receiver in free agency.
