Bayern Munich’s €50 million buy in the summer, Ismaël Saibari, arrived at the club already fluent 9in multiple languages. In his introductory press conference, he detailed that he could speak English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Dutch. He would get to working on German, but given Dutch is just a hop and a skip away from German, he should be able to master that challenge soon.
Someone maybe not quite as gifted at learning different languages, though, is Luis Díaz. The Colombian struggled to learn English
beyond a functionary level during his time at Liverpool FC and has so far been unsuccessful in learning much German at Bayern.
It helps, though, when there is someone around who understand one’s native language. Fortunately, with the arrival of Saibari, native Spanish speaker Díaz has found another Spanish speaker. Asked about this potential connection and his thoughts on his teammate, Díaz quickly made it clear that he appreciates the Moroccan’s language skills:
“Yes, he’s a good guy, and fortunately he speaks Spanish. It’s very important to have someone here I can speak to in my language,” the former FC Porto winger admitted (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I’m happy that he’s with us. I congratulated him because he had a very good season at PSV. And now he’s with us, and I’m sure he’ll help us improve even further. He has a lot of potential, he’s a very good player, and of course I hope he scores and assists a lot of goals and works for us as a team.”
Hopefully he and fellow Spanish speaker Bryan Zaragoza were able to somewhat bond during preseason, though of course the Spaniard’s departure means any connection will have been brief.
