With several new faces this season, the Detroit Lions offensive line is hard at work building chemistry.
After cutting ties with veterans Taylor Decker and Graham Glasgow this spring, the Lions signed multiple veterans in free agency and drafted Blake Miller in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Now the offensive line is looking a whole lot different, and building connections will be very important.
Earlier this week, newly signed Cade Mays posted on social media a picture with fellow lineman Tate
Ratledge after the pair went on a hunting trip together. Speaking with reporters at OTAs on Thursday, veteran Penei Sewell said he’d consider joining them on a trip sometime.
“I do want to go out there one time,” he said. “I heard it’s a different type of world, but I’m willing to do it all. I was talking to my wife the other day and those types of experiences, some people grow up on them and some people don’t. So it’s one of those things — might as well.”
Being open to new experiences may help him connect with his new teammates as the five-year veteran tries to set a good example to show how high the squad’s standards are.
“I’m the one that’s kind of been here the longest in the room, so it’s up to me to really hold that and to really show the guys, not just tell them because that’s the most important — you’ve got to come out here each and every day,” he said. “Nobody’s going to follow you if you’re not really doing it yourself.”
