The Miami Dolphins are building their offense around running back De’Von Achane, the team’s 2023 third-round draft pick who was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time last year. Miami signed Achane to a contract extension during the offseason, making him a cornerstone of the team’s rebuild under new head coach Jeff Hafley.
Behind Achane, the Dolphins will be looking to second-year running back Ollie Gordon II to build on his performance from last year. Gordon made his mark as the power compliment
to Achane’s speed, and he will likely be asked to hold the same role in 2026.

Gordon took on a short-yardage, power back type of role for the Dolphins, serving as the complement to Achane. He averaged just 2.8 yards per attempt, but he had 21 first downs on 70 carries. Gordon was not asked to be a workhorse back, reaching ten attempts just one time in his rookie year, but he had an impact on the Dolphins’ offense, providing a physicality to the running game that had been missing.

2026 expectations
Gordon should pick up right where he left off last year. The top spot on the depth chart is obviously Achane’s, but Gordon provides the power runner, pushing straight ahead for short yardage when needed. Miami also has Jaylen Wright, Donovan Edwards, Carlos Washington, Jr., and Anthony Hankerson on the roster, but Gordon should slot in as the number two option on the depth chart, with the possibility that, should Achane miss extended playing time, Wright would jump Gordon as a closer direct replacement for the starter.
