At least one of the trio of starting wide receivers injured in Arizona’s last game won’t be back on the field this season.
UA coach Brent Brennan confirmed Monday that junior Tre Spivey will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a foot injury in Saturday’s 34-7 win over Cincinnati. Brennan said Spivey will have surgery this week.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Spivey was injured on Arizona’s final offensive play of the first half and returned to the sidelines in the second half with a boot on his
left foot. Brennan said the injury is the same one Tetairoa McMillan suffered during spring practice in 2024.
“We were both crying in the X-ray room in the training room at halftime,” Brennan said.
Spivey, in his second year with the Wildcats, leads the team with 22 receptions, 314 yards and four touchdowns. He had three catches for 36 yards prior to getting hurt.
Arizona also saw starting receivers Gio Richardson and Chris Hunter get hurt in the first half against Cincinnati, with Richardson returning from a 2-game absence only to come out after one offensive series. Brennan did not provide updates on that pair, noting that a mandatory availability report will be released Wednesday night ahead of the game at West Virginia.
With all three unavailable for the second half, backups stepped up. Noah Fifita threw TD passes to Brandon Phelps and tight end Tyler Powell, while Isaiah Mizell, RJ Mosley and Caleb Smith caught passes.
Spivey is the second UA player declared out for the season, along with safety Daylen Austin.
