Damion Miller (b. Sept. 20, 2005) is a JUCO cornerback from Mississippi who is majoring in sociology and transferred in after spring practices. Despite his late arrival, he is surprisingly battling with Garrick Dixon and Kaleb Patterson for a starting or relief role after a stellar fall camp, thanks partly to a Donovan McIntosh injury.
Miller, who redshirted* and did not see any game action in 2024 at Southern Miss, transferred to SW Mississippi CC
for his redshirt freshman*/true sophomore year in 2025, playing for the Bears under head coach Les George.
At SMCC, he was regarded as the 14th-best community college cornerback in the Class of 2026 by 247Sports.
Miller tallied 23 tackles, four tackles for loss and an interception over his nine games. He registered a season-high six tackles against each of Northwest Mississippi, Jones College and East Central, this last game in which he also had two tackles for loss and a 32-yard interception return.
Miller also recorded tackles for loss against Northwest Mississippi and Jones College.
He prepped under head coach Harry Brown at Port Gibson High School in Claiborne County, Mississippi, where he was a first-team all-state selection who competed in two all-star games — the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game, which he registered a tackle, and the Bernard Blackwell Football Classic.
Miller totaled 36 tackles, two interceptions, and 12 total passes defended during his junior and senior seasons, while he caught 51 passes for 995 yards and 10 touchdowns over his final three prep seasons, and also competed in basketball and track.
He originally signed with Southern Miss, where he was an honor roll student, over offers from Alcorn State, Ole Miss and Tulane.
Miller chose to transfer to K-State after taking a visit to Lane Kiffin and LSU. In addition to Kansas State, he held offers from Alcorn State (from which he previously decommitted), Hampton, Jackson State, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi Valley State, Old Dominion and Troy.
Miller’s cousin, Kenneth Gainwell, was a star running back at Memphis who has played for both the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers, while he is a current member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
*K-State has recently announced a new classification scheme that designates players by their year of eligibility regardless of whether they have “redshirted,” a term that will go out of use with the new “5-for-5” rule. Thus, the KSU SID lists Miller as a true junior even though he did not play in 2024. For the sake of consistency with past posts, I will continue to designate redshirts based on their playing history, but also note their remaining eligibility to stay consistent with the new designations as well.
