The Friar Faithful have lived this experience before.
The San Diego Padres and their general manager and president of baseball operations A.J. Preller are heading into MLB Winter Meetings in Orlando, Fla.
with little financial flexibility and an unknown list of targets to fill the roster. Fans can only speculate about how Preller and the front office will stretch what few dollars the organization has or is willing to spend to build their team for 2026.
Of course, trades are an option, but that is only if the San Diego system has something to offer the other 29 teams in the league. There is talent in the Padres system, the problem is that most of that talent is years removed from reaching the major leagues.
With those factors in mind, readers of Gaslamp Ball have proclaimed overwhelmingly, they do not expect much to happen over the Winter Meetings. Less than a quarter of those who participated in the Padres Reacts Survey believe the Padres will make any significant moves this week, especially in terms of a big-name signing.
Whether or not that is the case, no one knows, at least no one outside the walls of the San Diego executive offices, but thanks to MLB Network we will all be able to sit back and watch it unfold in real time.
