No. 1 Indiana football quarterback Fernando Mendoza was named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy on Monday and is set to attend the award ceremony on Saturday night in New York City.
He’ll be joined by fellow finalists in Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love and Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin. Mendoza is currently the betting favorite to win the award, per FanDuel Sportsbook, trailed by Pavia, Love and Sayin in that order, with the Commodores’ quarterback mounting
a strong Heisman campaign to the end of the season.
Mendoza made his case after leading the Hoosiers to a 12-0 finish in the regular season and a 13-10 win over the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Football Championship game. He led game-winning drives against Iowa, Oregon and Penn State before leading the Hoosiers’ offense down the field to drain the clock en route to a Big Ten title.
