Former Newcastle United co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi are reportedly exploring a deal to buy another Premier League club shortly after leaving Tyneside.
According to the Daily Mail, PCP Capital Partners, the couple’s investment firm, has looked at opportunities at several clubs, including Tottenham, but West Ham are now on their radar as they consider buying the Hammers.
The report states that exploratory talks have taken place with West Ham, who were relegated from the Premier League
on the final day of last season.
Staveley told Spear’s Magazine this week that she and Ghodoussi are interested in taking on a club that needs rebuilding.
“I think both my husband and I were attracted to building a business where we can take a brand that isn’t doing so well, a club that isn’t performing well, get it on the right road, and bring that forward,” Staveley said. “There are very few clubs where that can work. If you want to tick every box, there’s actually very few clubs that allow that.”
Staveley and Ghodoussi helped lead the Newcastle takeover in 2021, forming a consortium with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and the Reuben brothers.
Newcastle reached the Champions League within 18 months of that takeover and later won the Carabao Cup.
As a final detail, the Daily Mail noted that the Reuben brothers are not part of the group looking at West Ham.
