Jan-Christian Dreesen believes Vincent Kompany understands exactly what FC Bayern Munich needs from its head coach, and it goes far beyond results on the pitch.
Bayern’s CEO praised Kompany’s respect for the club’s identity, his authority in the dressing room, and his willingness to listen to different perspectives rather than simply imposing his own ideas.
“He’s not someone who arrives with a big entourage and takes over the club, only to move on again after a few years. FC Bayern needs a coach who recognizes
and appreciates the quality that this club possesses. And that is certainly the case with Vincent. On top of that, he played at the highest level himself. Although he is still relatively young as a coach for such a big club as FC Bayern, he commands authority and the respect of the players. Furthermore, he does not stubbornly insist on his own ideas alone, but is always open to complementing them with other perspectives and input. Things are working between him, the club, and the players,” Dreesen told Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
That final point is particularly important. Kompany has not only established himself as a coach capable of delivering results, but has also built a relationship with the players and the club’s leadership that appears to be working exceptionally well.
For Bayern, finding a coach who respects the club’s traditions while continuing to evolve its football is essential. Dreesen’s comments suggest that Kompany is doing precisely that, and Bayern have every reason to be pleased with how this partnership is developing.
