No. 13/NR FSU swimming and diving is competing at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships, with redshirt senior Kayleigh Clark qualifying for the national championships in the 1-meter:
Clark will represent the Seminoles on the national stage on 1-meter and will look to add qualifications in the 3-meter and platform events later this week. She will return to NCAAs for the second time in her career after she finished 19th on platform (262.60) and 23rd on 3-meter (294.50) at the 2025 national championships.
The Marietta, Georgia, native finished 11th in prelims (269.70) and improved her score to 563.55 in finals, securing eighth place and an NCAA berth on the first event of the four-day Zone Championships.
The top 11 finishers on women’s 1-meter advanced to the NCAA Championships.
Sophomore Evelyn Hall placed 35th in prelims with a score of 219.35 and will compete again on Monday on 3-meter.
Day two features Clark, Hall and freshman Brooklyn Markusson on women’s 3-meter while senior Jack Bessire, sophomore Hayden Schroder and freshmen Jack Sparks and Maxwell Shaver will take part in the men’s 1-meter.
Day three will see Clark and Markusson compete in the women’s platform and Schroeder, Bessire, Sparks, Shaver and sophomore Carlos Vargas will take the boards in the men’s 3-meter. The meet concludes on day four with Vargas and Schroeder set to represent Florida State in the men’s platform event.
Florida State men’s tennis team (8-8, 0-4) ACC) fell 4-3 to No. 4 Wake Forest (17-2, 4-0) on Sunday, after having lost 4-1 to No. 23 NC State on Friday:
The Wolfpack secured the doubles point as No. 85 Martin Borisousk and Jules Leroux earned a 6-4 win over Luis Felipe Miguel and Erik Schiessl at the top spot. Florida State responded with an answer on court two as Justin Lyons and Mohammad Alkotop defeated William Manning and Charlie Camus 6-4. Cody Benton and Ainius Sabaliauskas followed with a 7-6 (4) win to clinch doubles play at No. 3 against Oren Ezerzer and Gabor Hornung.
NC State began singles, earning victories on courts six, five, and two. On Court 4, Alkotop won the opening set with a 6-4 slate, before going to battle in the second set for the 7-6 (5) win to grab the first point for the Seminoles. NC State rebounded on court six with a three-set battle that ended in NC State’s Darius Pop’s favor (6-3, 1-6, 6-2). The Wolfpack carried the momentum on court five as Camus defeated Azariah Rusher 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. No. 97 Manning clinched the final point of the night over No. 76 Schiessl with a 0-6, 7-5, 6-2 win on court two.
The Demon Deacons took the early 1-0 lead by winning two of three doubles courts. Florida State duo of Oren Ezerzer and Gabor Hornung started the courts hot with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position. Wake Forest took control of court 2, with a 6-3 win against FSU’s Jan Sebesta and Erik Schiessl. Both teams were in position to clinch the doubles point before Mess Rottgering and Kacper Syzmkowiak of Wake Forest won the tightly contested match against Justin Lyons and Mohammad Alkotop.
In sinlges, Florida State was able to strike first to get on the board with No. 118 Azariah Rusher winning court four 6-3, 6-2. Corey Craig kept the Seminoles in the fight with a 7-5, 6-4 win over a top 20 opponent, No. 18 Dk Suresh Ekambaram. Wake Forest responded with an answer on court one against No.78 Schiessl, tying the match 2-2. Justin Lyons followed with a 0-6, 6-4, 7-5 win to regain control before Wake Forest made a statement on court five with No. 71 Aryan Shah defeating Hornung with a three-set battle to tie the match once again.
The deciding factor came down to court three with Alkotop leading the way in the first set, before No. 15 Luca Pow answered in the second set and eventually clinched the match.
Florida State will face off against Clemson in South Carolina on Friday at 5:00 p.m., before heading to Atlanta in a matchup against Georgia Tech on Sunday at noon.
FSU women’s tennis suffered the same fate, losing 4-0 to No. 9 NC State on Friday and 4-1 to Wake Forest on Sunday:
In doubles against NC State, the Seminoles battled on Courts 1 and 2. Eva Shaw and Tina Li led No. 2-ranked doubles pair Gabriella Broadfoot and Victoria Osuigwe 3-2 through five games before falling 6-4. On Court 2, first time partners Abby Kelliher and Laura Putz trailed 5-4 with the session concluded. Victories on Courts 1 and 3 earned the Wolfpack the doubles point, ending FSU’s doubles point streak at five.
In singles, NC State earned victories on Courts 1, 4 and 6 to clinch the match. Tina Li played a tightly contested first set on Court 3 against No. 29-ranked Lavinia Tanasie and was down 2-1 in the second set when the match concluded.
Facing off against Wake Forest, the Seminoles secured the doubles point for the sixth time in their last seven matches. On Court 1, Eva Shaw and Tina Li jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead before Wake Forest responded by winning three of the next four games. Leading 5-3, Shaw and Li closed out the match with a 6-3 win to give FSU its first doubles victory of the day.
On Court 3, Cade Cricchio and Mary Boyce Deatherage battled to a 3-2 lead through the opening five games. With Wake Forest tying the match at 5-5 after winning the 10th game, Cricchio and Deatherage responded by winning the final two games to secure a 7-5 victory and clinch the doubles point for Florida State.
In singles play, the Seminoles captured the opening set on Courts 1, 2, 3 and 5. Wake Forest responded by earning straight-set victories on Courts 4 and 6 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Demon Deacons went on to win the second and third sets on Courts 2 and 5 to secure the 4-1 victory.
Shaw and Li improved to 3-1 in ACC play this season and are now 5-1 overall as a doubles pair.
Florida State returns to action Sunday when it travels to face No. 39 Miami (6-2, 3-0) at the Neill Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Florida. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
FSU lacrosse lost 15-7 vs. No. 20 Virginia on Sunday:
The Cavaliers opened the game with two quick first-quarter goals. At the 9:16 mark, Summer Harrell found a cutting Lydia Ward from behind the crease to put the Seminoles on the board. Four minutes later, Harrell scored to tie the game at 2-2. Virginia answered with a late goal to take a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.
Strong defense from both teams kept the game scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the second quarter before Virginia scored three straight goals. With 1:33 remaining in the half, Brooke Long drew a foul and capitalized on a free position opportunity to cut the deficit in half. Virginia carried a 6-3 lead into the break.
The Cavaliers extended their lead to 8-3 early in the third quarter. Ward responded, cutting inside two defenders from the 12-meter fan to score her second goal of the game. Virginia answered with another goal before Long converted her second free position shot of the day. The Cavaliers added two more goals to take an 11-5 lead into the fourth quarter.
Virginia opened the final period with a goal before the Seminoles again capitalized on a free position opportunity, this time from Meg Kenny for her 14th goal of the season.
Florida State’s final goal came from a pair of freshmen, as Anna Ellis found Amelia Brite cutting to the crease. Virginia added two late goals to earn the 15-7 win.
The Seminoles had multiple multi-goal scorers for the fifth time this season. Long recorded her third two-goal game, while Ward added her second two-goal performance of the year to go along with her four-goal effort in the season opener. Ward also totaled five draw controls and three ground balls.
Kenny’s goal extended her team-leading total to 14 on the season. Harrell recorded her fifth assist of the year and scored the 10th goal of her career.
Julia Ward made her first career start in goal for Florida State, finishing with seven saves.
The Seminoles remain at home next weekend as they host Virginia Tech on Saturday at the Seminole Lacrosse Complex. First draw is scheduled for 11 a.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ACCNX.
