Just yesterday, Chris Devenski was recalled in place of the designated for assignment José Castillo. After saving the Mets’ bullpen and allowing the team to come back (and eventually falter), Devenski has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. This so ends his fifth stint with the team this season. In his place, the Mets recalled Brandon Waddell.
Devenski was quite good yesterday, going three innings and allowing just one walk and no hits, while striking out three. Only one of the runners that was inherited
by Devenski came around to score as well, and that was on a double play ground ball.
Waddell will be in his fourth stint with the team, having last pitched for them on July 18th against the Reds. Over ten appearances, Waddell as put up a 4.00 eRA, striking out 18 and walking nine in 27.0 innings. His four appearances in July saw at least one earned run allowed. That stint saw his ERA jump more than a point and a half from where he left it at the end of June.
With the rosters expanding tomorrow, look for the Mets to add another pitcher, possibly a long man.
