The Seattle Seahawks had an eventful 2026 NFL Draft, turning four picks into eight and investing heavily in the secondary. There were questions concerning how early (if at all) Seattle would go for a running back, and the answer was quite early, taking Jadarian Price in the first round. Edge rusher was bypassed during the draft, although Northwestern’s Aidan Hubbard could be one of those intriguing undrafted free agent signings to watch during camp.
With a few days to digest what transpired, what is
your biggest take from Seattle’s draft? It may be related to a player, the draft process, the class as a whole, whatever you want.
One thing that stood out to me was John Schneider really wanted more picks than I thought. The 2021 draft remains the only time he’s had fewer than eight selections. Schneider even told reporters after Friday that they nearly traded down again before deciding to stick and pick Julian Neal. Having seventh-rounders is more advantageous than chancing it in a more competitive UDFA market, which is normally a Seahawks staple but is less desirable when the 90-man roster is already close to capacity. You might as well grab sevenths to assure yourselves of a player instead of losing out if he goes undrafted.
My top takeaway is the Seahawks’ secondary. Riq Woolen and Coby Bryant left, and Seattle did not hesitate to draft a cornerback and safety on Day 2. Julian Neal is a converted safety to corner, whereas Bud Clark is a safety who’s played corner, and Andre Fuller went from nickel to corner to safety and back to corner. There’s versatility all over the shop in addition to requisite size from Woolen and Fuller. This was a fairly deep draft for cornerbacks and the Seahawks made it an emphasis to add promising talent to a room that was looking a little shaky below Josh Jobe and Devon Witherspoon.
