Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 5, Charlotte Knights (White Sox) 2
Norfolk deployed five pitchers to get through these nine innings, and none of them recorded more than eight outs. Albert Suárez was the starter. He worked 2.1 shutout innings while giving up a hit, a walk, and striking out one. Dietrich Enns earned the win, though had the worst line of the day. He tossed 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on three hits, two walks, four strikeouts, and a home run. After that, the bullpen cruised through the final four frames. José Espada and Andrew Magno pitched one inning each. Magno struck out all three batters he faced, and now has a 1.73 ERA over 52 innings this season.
Three of the Tides runs came in to score on solo homers. Christian Franklin launched one in the bottom of the first inning. Brandon Butterworth added another in the second. And Ethan Anderson hit the third and final of the day in the fifth inning, his first as a Triple-A player and 23rd combined this season.
Norfolk’s other two runs came in to score in the third inning. Payton Eeles led off by reaching on an error by the Charlotte first baseman. Franklin followed with a single up the middle, allowing Eeles to scoot around to third. Later, Creed Willems drove in Eeles on a sac fly to deep center field. Then, Anderson brought in Franklin on a double.
Butterworth led the team with three hits. Anderson had the aforementioned two hits and two RBI. Aron Estrada went 2-for-4, as did Franklin. Jud Fabian was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Enrique Bradfield Jr. did not appear in this game.
