Christian Pulisic has caught fire once again this season after a frustrating 2024/25 campaign at Milan.
The USA international has four goals and two assists, having famously come up with a goal and an assist against
Napoli. The attacker has only just returned to action, playing 20 minutes in the draw against Parma but he seems set to have a key season for the Rossoneri.
In a way, this comes at the most perfect time for him and the United States. After all, the 27-year-old will play in his second consecutive World Cup for the first time ever and with the burden of responsibility on him, it will be paramount for him to hit form before the tournament.
In the 2022 edition, Pulisic was arguably USA’s most influential attacking player. He scored once and assisted twice in four games, helping them to their only victory of the tournament against Iran in a 1-0 triumph.
Since then, the US have witnessed some downs. The home tournament next year will give the country a big opportunity to unite behind the side again.
Now, there is every chance that Pulisic has the best season of his Milan career. Last season, he scored 11 times and assisted just as many times. In the 2023/24 campaign, he contributed to 21 goals. So far in the current campaign, he has a much superior contribution rate and it could yet get better.
Max Allegri’s setup brings the most out of attacking players that invade space. The Rossoneri have used a lot of Rafael Leao’s traits in games in the absence of Pulisic and it has won them games, especially the one against Roma.
Against Napoli, Pulisic himself donned that role, as he attacked space on the break and had an all-encompassing impact in the final third. This will bring the most out of him and play into his strengths as a footballer.
Pulisic will take big confidence from that ahead of the World Cup. His responsibility of sometimes carrying the attack mirrors what he would do for the US in the tournament.
There is always the question mark of fitness around the ex-Chelsea man. But even despite issues, Pulisic has always put up consistently good numbers. It is key to note that Milan are very much in a title race and Pulisic could yet win the Scudetto. If things go well, it would be an icing on the cake for him ahead of the World Cup.
