Ohio State is now 2-0 following an unsurprisingly lopsided victory against Grambling State which saw Ohio State win 70-0. As the score shows, the Buckeyes were dominant at every facet of the game, and we got to see more of what Ohio State can bring to the table on both offense and defense following a more conservative matchup Week 1 versus Texas.
With the more than impressive showing, much of the talk regarding Ohio State are focusing on the many players with strong performances like Julian Sayin,
Jeremiah Smith, Caleb Downs, Riley Pettijohn, Bo Jackson and many others. There is also already an increase in chatter about Ohio State’s upcoming matchup versus in-state foe, Ohio.
This weekend’s game will be the only night game in Columbus, and Ohio Stadium will likely be electric leading up to the game. While Ohio State will be heavy favorites again in this one, the stage will still be great for any recruits that choose to visit for the game thanks to the night game theatrics and the Buckeye faithful.
Lost in all the chatter surrounding Ohio State was the fact the Buckeyes dished out a pair of offers over the weekend.
The first offer was to 2027 three-star defensive line prospect Malachi Brown (Corbin, KY / Corbin), who visited Ohio State for the Grambling State game.
Brown’s visit with the Buckeyes appears to have gone as well as possible. Not only did he get to see Ohio State play in dominating fashion, he also left with the highly-coveted Ohio State offer.
Ohio State is not alone in its pursuit of Brown as he also holds offers from the likes of Appalachian State, Kentucky, Marshall, NC State, Tennessee, Toledo and Vanderbilt. His offer list will likely only continue to grow throughout the season as well.
That being said, Ohio State has to like where it sits in his recruitment. Following a good visit and the pedigree of the University, the Buckeyes are likely one of Brown’s top schools already. Look to see if Ohio State is able to get him back on campus and if so, they will likely be viewed as the heavy favorites in this one, if not already.
Brown is the No. 50 DL recruit in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and he is the No. 486 national recruit. He is also the No. 7 recruit out of Kentucky.
The other recruit to receive an official Ohio State scholarship offer over the weekend was 2026 three-star offensive tackle Landry Brede (Mentor, OH / Mentor), who has not yet found his way to Columbus for an in-game visit this season, but is very familiar with Ohio State being from Ohio.
Brede may have been the more interesting offer Ohio State dished out over the weekend as he committed to NC State back in June. However, following the offer to Ohio State, many are already believe the Buckeyes could be legitimate contenders to flip his commitment.
Ohio State and offensive line coach Tyler Bowen have long shown interest in the Ohio native and following the game Saturday, they felt comfortable enough to offer him a chance to play for them.
As was mentioned, Brede is already committed to NC State, and he has made it known the relationship and early belief the Wolfpack have shown in him goes a long way. However, a chance to play for the Buckeyes is hard to turn down without second thought.
If Ohio State is able to get Brede on campus this season, its chances in securing a commitment from him will only increase.
Ohio State has made it a priority under Ryan Day to recruit the best prospects from the state of Ohio and Brede fits that bill. He is the No. 80 OT in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the No. 941 overall recruit. He is also the No. 43 recruit from Ohio.
