The Miami Hurricanes defeated the Stanford Cardinal 42-7 on Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium. It was a tale of two halves for the Canes, with the first ending tied at 7 and the Canes outscoring Stanford 35-0
in the second.
As such, there was a lot of good and a lot of bad on display for Miami on Saturday night. Pro Football Focus has finished their grades, and so here are the top and bottom 5 grades Canes overall. I like to see if these match up with my eyeballs from watching the game. As an FYI, I’m going with players who logged at least 20 snaps.
Top 5
1) CB Xavier Lucas – 90.4
2) WR Tony Johnson – 88.0
3) DE Rueben Bain, Jr. – 87.6
4) S Keonte Scott – 84.3
5) OL Markel Bell – 82.3
I guess this doesn’t surprise me too much. Lucas played in just 24 snaps, but he was excellent and notched his first career interception while allowing just 1 catch for 6 yards on 4 targets. Bain led all Miami defenders with 6 pressures. Johnson had a game-high 69 yards on 3 catches.
Bottom 5
1) TE Alex Bauman – 42.3
2) LB Mohamed Toure – 52.3
T-3) WR Keelan Marion – 53.5
T-3) S Zechariah Poyser – 53.5
5) WR CJ Daniels – 53.8
I don’t recall much about Bauman, but obviously PFF saw plenty they didn’t like. Daniels had a bad drop on fourth down on a slant that killed a first half drive, but he bounced back by mossing a defender for a touchdown right before halftime. Poyser allowed just 1 catch for 9 yards on 3 targets, so the passing game problems weren’t there. He had a 28.3 tackling grade despite one actual tackle and one missed tackle. Can’t pretend to understand that one.
What about you all? Anything stick out about any of the above on your viewing that I’m missing?
