There is no doubt that the midweek fixture of SV Wehen Wiesbaden vs Bayern Munich was an edge of the seat thriller that ultimately tipped in Bayern’s favour. The 3.Liga side punched way above their weight as they threatened to knock the visitors out in the very first round of the DFB-Pokal.
Team effort spearheaded by a lethal leader
Wehen had a simple plan. Defend with everything they have got and catch Bayern off-guard with long balls. Extremely tenacious in defence, Wehen bridged the gap in quality with relentless effort. The captain Fatih
Kaya converted the team effort into scoreboard results with two fantastic goals in a span of 6 minutes. A very late header from his Bayern counterpart, Harry Kane, saw the home-side succumb to a harsh defeat.
“It’s bitter. Obviously I’m happy about the two goals, that’s something special. Nevertheless, I’d prefer to be in the second round. It’s incredible that we came back from 2-0 down. We can be sad but we should also be proud. We showed what we can do” said the Wehen captain after the game (via FC Bayern).
Bayern Munich traveled to Frankfurt to take on SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the DFB-Pokal.
The home side was game and did give Bayern Munich a battle. Sure, the Bavarians were deeper, quicker, stronger, and better, but the 3.Liga side was not going to go down easy in what was an entertaining match. Bayern Munich ultimately won 3-2.
