The Kansas City Chiefs have released their list of inactive players for Sunday’s game against the Denver Brnocos.
Tackle Diego Pounds, cornerback Mansoor Delane, fullback Ben VanSumeren and defensive ends Jack Pyburn and Tyreke Smith will not dress. Rookie Garrett Nussmeir has been designated as the third quarterback and is eligible to enter the game should starter Patrick Mahomes and backup Justin Fields become unavailable.
Delane was a midweek downgrade in practice with the shoulder injury that has plagued him all season. He was designated as questionable on Friday’s final injury report, but the team later ruled him out on Saturday before departing for Denver.
Rookie defensive end R Mason Thomas was listed as questionable after missing Friday’s practice for personal reasons. The team then announced that Thomas would travel separately to Denver. On Sunday, the Chiefs confirmed that he had indeed rejoined them in Colorado and removed his game designation.
On Saturday, Kansas City elevated practice squad defensive end Tyreke Smith to the active roster. As an elevated player, he will automatically be returned to the team’s practice squad after the game. With Thomas’ availability no longer in doubt, Smith is inactive for the contest. He will have one more permitted elevation.
Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott was listed as out after being designated to return this week as he works his way back from last season’s ACL tear. He remains on the Chiefs’ Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) list and is not listed with the inactives. Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed was initially called questionable with a knee injury. However, the Chiefs placed Sneed on the Reserve/Injured (IR) list on Saturday and signed practice squad defensive back Melvin Smith to the active roster.
The Broncos have also released their list of inactives.
Safety Talanoa Hufanga, offensive linemen Gavin Ortega and Kage Casey, tight end Dallen Bentley, and defensive linemen Jordan Jackson and Tyler Onyedim will not play. Sam Ehlinger is listed as the third quarterback.
Hufanga had already been ruled out with an ankle injury. Wide receiver Jaylon Waddle (chest), safety Brandon Jones (hamstring) and defensive tackle Zach Allen (hamstring) all ended the week with questionable tags. All three players will dress.
The Broncos elevated Ortega and former Missouri (and Truman State) running back Cody Schrader for the matchup. Schraeder will dress for the game.
Running back R.J. Harvey was previously listed as out for Sunday. On Saturday, the Broncos placed Harvey on IR and signed veteran safety Taylor Rapp from the practice squad.
