Bayern Munich won an exhilarating fixture against Borussia Dortmund in a 3-2 win. The game was full to the brim with intensity with players not pulling any punches. Dortmund’s defender Nico Schlotterbeck fouled Bayern’s Stanišić in a sliding tackle, rattling the right back. Despite the ref adjudging the foul to be worthy of only a yellow card, the offender himself believes he could have been sent off.
Speaking post another high voltage Der Klassiker match, Dortmund’s Schlotterbeck admitted the severity
of his foul on Bayern’s Josip Stanišić . “I think you could give a red card for that. I got a bit lucky,” he said (via Sky Germany as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Very physical game
This game was charged from start to finish. Every player was sparing no opportunity to miss even a half chances. The runs and challenges were committed resulting in a very physical duel between the two sides.
Coming in the 18th minute, Schlotti did not hold back and went all in with a sliding challenge. Schlotterbeck’s foot was quite high going into the challenge as his heel made contact with the ball before his foot crashed into Stanišić‘s shin. While the defender did manage to contact the ball before crashing into Stanišić’s shin, the force of the challenge and the potential damage were important factors that would determine the nature of the foul.
Reluctant ref
The referee Sven Jablonksi was reluctant to book any player allowing the intensity to remain high for most of the game. However, both sides were vigorous into the challenges and this instance was one where it crossed the line. Luckily, Stanišić walked away with no major damage relieving Bayern from further distress due to injuries.
