The Packers cannot get their ground game in gear.
They cannot run with MarShawn Lloyd. They cannot run with Chris Brooks. They cannot run with Pierre Strong. They cannot run with Kaleb Johnson, a healthy scratch this week despite the Packers giving up a draft pick for him.
They can’t even run with Josh Jacobs, who returned from his not-suspension against the Lions to grind out 36 yards on 11 attempts. 10 of those 36 yards came on one carry, meaning he averaged a paltry 2.6 yards per attempt on his other
runs. Not great!
Will it ever get better? All signs point to no at this point, but who knows? The Packers’ 2026 season has been anything but predictable, and they’ve been able to figure out some of their issues on the fly. Maybe the ground game will miraculously improve.
It feels like it would take a miracle at this point. Maybe Kevin Zeitler finally gets into the lineup and ignites a change in fortunes. Maybe Josh Jacobs discovers the fountain of youth. Maybe MarShawn Lloyd figures out how not to get lost between his backfield position and the line of scrimmage. Maybe Jordan Love turns into a dual-threat savant. A lot of things could maybe happen!
I’m not hopeful, though. Even when the Packers have faced some of the league’s worst run defenses, they haven’t been able to get it going on the ground. They peaked at 86 rushing yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and that included 58 yards on two carries from Kaleb Johnson and Chris Brooks. Unless the Packers can figure out a way to rip off a couple of big runs — or maybe fall into one by accident — it’s hard to see a big week of rushing output on the horizon this year.
But who knows? Anything can happen. Maybe the real ground game has yet to be discovered.

Packers discussion in the Feed
Xavier McKinney is certainly going to face a financial reprisal for his comments about the officiating following the Packers’ loss to the Lions on Sunday. The officials are the NFL’s most fiercely protected class, and calling them on the carpet, no matter what they’ve done, is one of the NFL’s brightest red lines. What do you think McKinney will be fined?
