Bodø/Glimt star acknowledges the team will ‘probably have a very tough time’ against Bayern Munich

What is the story about?

Bodø/Glimt was, of course, everyone’s darlings in the last Champions League season. The Norwegian team’s UCL campaign started terribly, with the team unable to win their first six league games before sensationally winning at home against Manchester City and away to Atlético Madrid, narrowly securing a playoff spot. They then overcame the previous season’s finalists Inter Milan in both playoff legs to book a spot to the Round of 16 and seemed set to advance to the next round after a 3-0 home victory

against Sporting CP, only to suffer a 5-0 loss away from home to put an end to their 2025/26 UCL story.

But they are back for the 2026/27 season and their first opponent is Bayern Munich. It is a big match, not helped by the fact that they need to travel to Munich. Bodø/Glimt winger Jens Petter Hauge spoke in a press conference ahead of the match (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) and balanced a healthy respect for the Bavarians with the confidence the team had acquired from last season’s run.

“It will be incredibly tough. There are many teams that have come and had a very tough time, and we will probably have that tomorrow as well. But like in all football matches, you always have a chance,” Hauge said. “Hopefully we can have the ball more than Bayern want us to, and then we might get something out of the game. We have shown for several years that we are an incredibly good football team. We want to prove that tomorrow.”

The former Eintracht Frankfurt winger’s confidence is admirable and understandable. Much was made of the Norwegian team’s home advantage and their artifical pitch, but it is important to remember that they only lost one match away from home in the League phase last season, as well as beating Atlético Madrid and Inter Milan at their own stadiums. Do not let the loss to Sporting fool you, dear reader. Bodø/Glimt are very capable of being a stern test for Bayern.
