The Jays say that Addison Barger ‘is expected’ to be ready for spring training, which suggests he didn’t have full Tommy John Surgery. That’s good news. ‘A repair not full reconstruction’. They are saying a six month recovery. I’m hoping he doesn’t push himself too hard in the gym.
Jesus Sanchez will play for Buffalo tomorrow and likely would be back for the weekend.
But Yimi Garcia is having nerve pains in his neck and is off to see a doctor again. I was hoping he’d be back soon and would show enough
that they could trade him, but that’s no happening.
Beyond that, Lenyn Sosa is taking batting practice, I know you are all looking forward to his return.
Max Scherzer gets to pitch on his birthday. Pitchers tend to do well on their birthdays. I’m not sure what ‘well’ looks like for a 42-year-old Scherzer, but lets hope he gets his ERA into three significant digits.
Today’s lineup. Ernie Clement leads off against the LHP, but Nathan Lukes bats second. He and Varsho are the two lefties in the order. No Davis Schneider, Luis Urias plays second. Personally I’d put Davis in everyday and tell him to relax, he’s going to be there tomorrow and the next day. Urias? He hasn’t been any good since 2022 and he’s not going to be here next year. Davis was good last year, tell him to relax. Tell him he’s here until the end of the season. He’s been up and down enough this year that he has to be thinking ‘If I don’t hit today, I’m going to be back in Buffalo’. It is hard to be successful when you have that in your head. He might be hitting .213/.271/.305, whoops sorry that’s Myles Straw, Davis is .144/.274/.279. You got 60 ish games to see if you want Davis next year, give him that. Urias, we already know won’t be back.
Two years ago, the Jays made nine trades at the deadline. This year, I’m betting, it will be more in the 4-5 range. I think teams will want Gausman and Bieber. I don’t know that Springer has shown enough, and I’m sure any contending team has better options at DH, but never know. Varsho? We have a ton of LHH outfielders, but Varsho hasn’t hit at all lately.
