The Detroit Lions look to keep pace with a competitive NFC North in Week 4 by facing off against the Carolina Panthers on “Sunday Night Football.”
The Lions have looked a little uneven through the first three weeks of the season. While the offense has been pretty solid, producing 31 points in each game, the defense has been extremely worrisome. They got blown out by the Bills offense, and the defensive struggles allowed both the Saints and Jets to climb back into a game, despite the fact that they
were trailing by two scores in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers could prove to be a significant challenge to Detroit’s defense. Bryce Young and the Panthers are averaging 29.7 points per game and have one of the most aggressive passing attacks in football. Against Detroit’s struggling secondary, that could be a mismatch, even with Carolina receiver Jalen Coker likely out for this game.
That said, it’s also a mismatch in favor of Detroit’s offense. The Panthers are allowing 27.7 points per game (26th), and they currently hold the worst rushing defense in football by yards per game and yards per carry. Could this be another week in which Jahmyr Gibbs eats?
