Just a few days before Julian Nagelsmann brought former Bayern Munich winger and current Galatasaray star Leroy Sané back to the German national team, the 29-year-old talked about his recent omissions
from the squad.
“Everyone has their own opinion and perspective. I’m not angry with him. Julian Nagelsmann and I have a very good relationship; we get along really well and had good exchanges and discussions during the last training courses. I’m grateful to him for that. Of course, I hope that when things are going well for me again, I’ll be invited back. I want to repay that trust with my performance – he’s always supported me, and I’m grateful for that,” Sané told Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau. “I don’t feel any pressure. Of course, the World Cup is a big goal for me – the biggest event in football. I’ll do everything I can to perform at my best and show that Julian Nagelsmann has to take me. I certainly hope we have a great tournament together.
“Ultimately, it’s about my overall performance. Julian knows exactly what kind of player I am, what qualities I have, and what kind of energy I bring to the pitch. That’s also what he demands of me: to lead from the front – whether with goals, assists, or defensive work. I’m making sure my entire game is on point. That’s my goal.”
Nagelsmann has always had an affinity for Sané, but it was unclear if the winger would be able to do enough for Galatasaray to earn another shot at the German national team. Now, it appears that Sané has made the necessary strides to thrust himself firmly back in the mix.
Can he make it stick? We shall soon find out…
