Liverpool’s move to sign Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace is still likely to eventually go through following the collapse of Crystal Palace’s intended signing of Igor Julio from Brighton, but until an alternative is found it is unlikely the London club will sign off on Guéhi’s move.
That’s the latest as the Reds, Eagles, and Guéhi are all trying to sort through this unexpected stumbling block with just hours left now before the transfer window slams shut. Palace had believed Julio was committed to join
them only for the player to unexpectedly make a late switch and decide to join West Ham instead.
On paper, it’s a head scratcher. Julio would have been a certain starter for Palace with a chance to play in this season’s Europa Conference League. West Ham by comparison appear a side in turmoil, are attracting early relegation chatter, and with manager Graham Potter’s job in danger.
Regardless, it’s the choice Julio has made. Palace have allowed Guéhi’s Liverpool medical to continue for the time being, but there are far more doubts than even an hour ago—though with Liverpool previously signalling they would be willing to sell Joe Gomez if Guéhi arrived, perhaps there’s a solution in there somewhere.
