K.J. Britt and Elliott Davison officially reverted to the New England Patriots’ practice squad on Monday after serving as standard elevations against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The linebacker and safety both made their 2026 debuts during the 45-17 rout at Gillette Stadium.
Britt, 27, played 14 snaps on special teams and notched his first tackle of the regular season on a kickoff return by running back Dylan Laube. The 6-foot, 240-pound linebacker signed in Foxborough as an unrestricted free agent in March.
He then joined the practice squad as the calendar turned to September after being released from the initial 53-man roster as a vested veteran.
Selected in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL draft at No. 176 overall, Britt stands 77 games and 16 starts into a journey that began with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Auburn product spent last year with the Miami Dolphins and finished atop his previous AFC East club with 76.9 percent of the workload in the kicking game. His career spans 162 tackles, half a sack, four stops for loss and three passes defensed through 994 downs on defense and 1,303 downs on special teams.
Davison, 24, dressed for his first NFL game beyond the preseason on Sunday. Having a hand in two tackles and a third-down pass deflection versus quarterback Fernando Mendoza in the final quarter, the sophomore safety handled 10 snaps on defense and 19 snaps on special teams.
Joining New England’s practice squad during the initial week of September before being released and re-signed, Davison originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of UTSA in 2025. The 6-foot, 190-pound former Roadrunners defensive back spent the entirety of his rookie year on the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints. Retained on a futures contract in January, he made one August start before clearing waivers at the cutdown deadline.
Two standard elevations remain for both reversions before 53-man contracts would be required to take the field.
For now, head coach Mike Vrabel’s 3-2 team carries an open spot on the practice squad as well as the roster. That’s after the weekend’s transactions saw cornerback Kindle Vildor promoted and safety Brenden Schooler activated, while fullback Reggie Gilliam and wide receiver Mack Hollins landed on injured reserve.
The New York Jets visit Gillette Stadium next Sunday. The divisional kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
