Sometimes, no news is good news.
Despite being idle this past weekend, Michigan moved up one spot in ESPN’s FPI to 18th overall in the nation.
Michigan is still projected to lose one of its final three games,
as its predicted record is 8.8-3.2. Perhaps the most concerning element of the FPI is the Wolverines’ slim College Football Playoff odds of 6.7 percent.
If there is a silver lining, it is the rankings’ high estimation of the Big Ten. Ohio State, Indiana and Oregon round out the top three, with USC at No. 10. Iowa is also one spot below Michigan, further demonstrating the top-end talent and depth in the conference.
However, anything more than four CFP bids for the Big Ten feels unlikely, with even that number an uncertainty. The path remains straightforward for Sherrone Moore’s program — win out or play in a less meaningful bowl game.
Hopefully that heavy Wolverine presence in Chicago comes through for the Wrigley Field affair and that they avoid disaster in College Park the week after. Ultimately, it all comes down to The Game.
