In the new college athletics landscape, it takes more than NIL to recruit well. It also requires state-of-the-art facilities. One of Will Stein’s first orders of business after being named the head coach of the Kentucky Football program was to update the weight room in the Joe Craft Football Training Facility.
In late April, the UK Board of Trustees approved the $3 million project, which was completed this week.
The new weight room features Kentucky-branded Sorinex equipment, a company that has provided
weight equipment to many of the top college programs in the country, including Alabama, Georgia, and Miami, among others, as well as professional teams such as the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings in the NFL and the Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays in MLB.
With such a high price tag, the equipment comes customized with Kentucky branding. All free weights and plate weights feature the UK logo, and “BBN” and “Go Big Blue” are written on the power racks, which are also equipped with blue LED lighting.
In addition to the football weight room, the Nutter-Shively Complex, a 3,700-square-foot facility used by nearly a dozen secondary sports, is also receiving offseason upgrades.
Kentucky football posted a video to provide a first look at the upgrades.
The players will soon begin to put in work in the new weight room to prepare for the first year of the Will Stein era, which kicks off on September 5th, exactly 100 days away.
