in Week 1 against the Giants, and he spoke on some of his mistakes. Plus, he dives into the thought process of the entire team after their season-opening loss.
An unusual offensive showing by the Dallas Cowboys helped to torpedo their potential to put up points in their narrow 28-20 loss to the New York Giants in Week 1. And with another division opponent, the Washington Commanders, heading their way, the urgency is there to avoid starting the 2026 season with an 0-2 record in the NFC East.
“It’s definitely urgent, because it’s [another] division game, such as the Giants was,” said All-Pro receiver George Pickens after Wednesday’s practice. “We definitely need to nail down our Ps and Qs. I think that’s the mindset that people are honing in now.”

It was lacking in a 28-20 season-opening loss to the Giants on Sunday, much to the surprise of the team’s coaching staff. It played a role in a defensive performance that was the worst in the NFL in Week 1, according to some metrics.
Amid the discourse, Cowboys safety P.J. Locke wanted people to consider something.
“Communication is an ongoing thing,” Locke said. “It doesn’t just stop. You just don’t get good at it. You’ve got to keep improving it. That’s something we’re going to continue to harp on.”

Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and safety Malik Hooker didn’t practice on Wednesday. Both are expected to be out for the Cowboys Week 2 matchup versus the Commanders.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer provided some insight to injuries Monday and now we have more indication about player statuses following the Sunday’s loss. DeMarvion Overshown was designated as a DNP at Wednesday’s practice. He came up lame during Sunday night’s game and was visibly frustrated after sustaining the injury. Overshown would’ve been highly questionable to play this week with such an injury, and today’s status seems to be indicative that he is very unlikely to play this week.

George Pickens had just 28 yards on three receptions in Week 1. He could have had much more if not for a terrible drop on a deep pass that went right into his hands. Pickens had another drop earlier, although that one would have been negated by penalty if he had hauled it in. Still, it was a night to forget for the star wideout.
Pickens will have a chance to prove he’s still the big-time playmaker Cowboys fans fell in love with in 2025 this weekend, and has a favorable matchup that he can take advantage of.

Going into the offseason, the Cowboys’ biggest worry on offense was left tackle Tyler Guyton. Last season, he had a Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade of 57.4 overall with a pass-blocking grade under 50. His PFF grade for Sunday was 70.2 overall. He allowed two pressures on 36 pass rush reps and allowed zero pressures to Brian Burns on 20 attempts. Guyton also mauled people a few times in the run game. If he is a solid starter and can stay healthy, it’s an incredible positive even in a bad loss.

Ryan Flournoy has a chance to have a breakout season after performing well in 2025. He didn’t have a good game in Week 1, but if he turns things around, the Cowboys offense will take off.

Glancing briefly at the stat sheet tells part of the story for Flournoy: he caught just two passes for 22 yards against New York on five targets, and technically, Dak Prescott threw his lone interception of the night when putting the ball in the area of Flournoy.
Toward the end of last season, Flournoy proved to be much more capable than that. And because he never stepped up and made the Giants pay, especially against their lesser cornerbacks, all the attention could remain on Pickens and Lamb, both of whom really failed to get going.
