FanDuel Odds & Thoughts
UNLV/Ohio: Rebels -3.5, O/U 63.5
- In the age of opt outs and the transfer portal, deciphering the odds for these bowl games has never been tougher. Ohio elected to make things even more confusing. Last Monday, Ohio announced that head coach Brian Smith would be put on indefinite leave for “an undetermined period of time.” That’s not ominous at all! Defensive coordinator John Hauser will take over for the bowl game.
- Redshirt senior running back Sieh Bangura and graduate student offensive lineman Davion Weatherspoon are the headliners for the Ohio Bobcats, who featured nine players on the all-MAC teams. The passing attack is led by senior quarterback Parker Navarro, but it’s been an uneven season for the passing game. This offense is led by the rushing attack. The Bobcat defense ranks a respectable 58th-nationally.
- UNLV is led by star quarterback Anthony Colandrea, who threw for 3,275 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 621 yards and 9 touchdowns on the ground. He was offensive player of the year in the MWC for a reason.
- The oddsmakers at FanDuel are expecting a close contest and plenty of offense. I do not anticipate any opt-outs, but I would monitor if any players declare for the portal early.
