Injury designation definitions:
Probable = the league defines a Probable injury designation as a 75% or greater chance of playing. Historically, 95% of players designated probable are active and played on game day.
Questionable = the league defines a Questionable injury designation as being ‘uncertain’ of whether the player will play or not. This replaces
the former definition of having a 50% chance of playing. Historically, 70-75% of players with a Questionable injury designation were active and played on game day.
Doubtful = The league defines a Doubtful injury designation to mean the player is unlikely to participate in the game. In practical terms, teams use the designation when a player has less than a 50% chance to suit up, and active game appearances from this designation remain rare. Historically only around 6% of players with a Doubtful designation are active and played on game day.
Out = will not play. Players with this designation are not active on game day and league rules prohibit them from playing.
Notes on Injured Players
For the Bears, starting right tackle Darnell Wright did not practice due to a knee injury, which appears to be a new injury after the Panthers game in which he played every snap. No details on the severity, but Wright not being able to go on Sunday would be a significant loss for the Bears as he is arguably their best offensive lineman.
Ozzy Trapilo is working his way back from a torn patellar tendon injury and is likely to start at left tackle when he is ready. Unclear if he’ll be ready to return this week, however.
Both Bears running backs were limited in Wednesday’s practice. I don’t think at this point either will not play on Sunday, but depending on the severity of their injuries, they could be less than 100% on the field. Hamstring injuries can be tricky injuries that can sometimes require rest even if they don’t seem severe to prevent a worsening condition.
There is no reason to believe the other players on the list for the Bears will be unable to go on Sunday, but Thursday and Friday’s reports were provide more clarity.
For the Vikings, the news of the day is Jordan Mason going on short-term IR for a broken thumb, which will sideline him for four games. That is a significant loss. Deejay Dallas is being promoted to the active roster in a corresponding move. He appears to be ahead of Demond Claiborne at this point on the depth chart.
The other news is Kyler Murray being limited after suffering a concussion early in the Packers game. Reports from coaches are that he hasn’t been suffering any lingering symptoms so there is a chance he could play against the Bears on Sunday. There is a protocol that needs to be followed, but it seems his chances of playing on Sunday look more promising than they did earlier in the week.
There is no reason to believe that any of the other injuries listed are significant enough to keep players out on Sunday, but once again the next two injury reports this week will provide more clarity.
Stay tuned.
