With the 2025-26 campaign coming to a close, we are into our season review series with a look at the goalkeepers and how they did this season. All data is from FotMob.
As the season ends and we reflect on where we have been, it is also important to look at what needs to be done for next season. When it comes to the goalkeeper, Everton are in a very solid position with England’s number one playing every minute of the season although the future has been complicated by the release of both Joao Virginia
and Asmir Begovic. The first rumours of a replacement appeared recently with Sheffield United’s Michael Cooper being linked. They young keeper would be an excellent understudy for Pickford. The question is whether he wants to give up the starting role he currently holds.
Jordan Pickford
PL Appearances – 38 GA – 50 xGOT – 52.64 SoTA –153 Save% – 66.67 GA90 – 1.32
Doing the season review for Jordan Pickford is quite easy. Cut from last year and then paste it in. However, what has to be said is that his early career moments of madness have been virtually eliminated and his consistency now is excellent. His goals against went up to 50 but his stats compared to other goalies remains stellar with.
In the Premier League, he maintained an impressive level of consistency, though a slight dip in the team’s overall defensive numbers affected his league-wide rankings compared to his stellar previous campaign. He recorded 11 clean sheets while playing every single minute of all 38 matches. He ended the season tied for 3rd in the Golden Glove race.
His standout moment of the year came against Newcastle United, where an incredible reaction stop to deny a Sandro Tonali volley earned him both the Premier League Save of the Month for February and the ultimate Premier League Save of the Season award. For me, his best game was against Manchester United at Old Trafford which also had him claim the Save of the Month for November although he made three incredible saves that could have each won the award. These two monthly honors increased his career total to four, establishing a new Premier League record for the most Save of the Month awards won by a single goalkeeper.
Pickford is locked in with Everton until June, 2029, thanks to his contract extension that was signed at the end of last season. He is earning every penny of the reported £150,000 a week salary. Even though he is frequently linked with a move away, I think that he will end his playing days at Hill Dickinson and we can be all thankful.
Grade: A
Mark Travers
During his debut 2025/26 season as a backup goalkeeper for Everton F.C., Irish international Mark Travers served as the backup option behind the ever present Jordan Pickford. Following his £4 million summer transfer from Bournemouth, the 27-year-old made 3 total appearances across all competitions.
His primary action came via 2 starts in the EFL Cup spanning 180 minutes, where he kept a clean sheet in a 2–0 victory over Mansfield Town before conceding twice in an elimination defeat against Wolves. Travers capped off his year with a brief, 2-minute Premier League debut as a late substitute against Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the season.
Suffice to say, Travers knows that he is riding the pine and will be used in training to give the team two goalies to fill out the squad. That being said, his appearances in the Carabao Cup, he was a spectator in the Mansfield game and he parried Jhon Arias’s volley directly into the path of Marshall Munetsi for the opening goal in the Wolves loss.
Grade: C (Cos he didn’t really play much)
