Fall sports are hitting championship season, so let’s get right to this week’s Olympic Sports round-up:
Field Hockey (11-5, 3-5)
The Orange closed out the regular season with a 3-2 loss at Louisville. Syracuse will open ACC Tournament play at Wake Forest tonight at 6:00 on ACCNX. Wake won the previous meeting in overtime.
Three Orange were named All-ACC: Lieke Leeggangers and Bo Van Kempen both earned First-Team honors while Aidan Drabick was named to the Second-Team.
Men’s Soccer (7-6-3, 4-3-1)
The Orange earned a 1-1 tie at #4 NC State over the weekend. Now the Orange earned the 6th seed and host Virginia Tech tomorrow night.
Volleyball (13-9, 5-7)
It finally happened. The Orange had their first non-split week as they dropped matches at Florida State and Miami.
Syracuse returns home to face Wake Forest and NC State this weekend.
Cross-Country
Syracuse narrowly missed bringing the ACC Men’s Championship back to the 315. The Orange had all five scorers in the top 20 led by Sam Lawler’s 8th place finish, but they were edged out by Virginia by a score of 61-65. Following Lawler were Assaf Harari (11th), Peter Waldorf (14th), Benne Anderson (15th) and Matthew Neill (17th). It was a great showing of pack running from Syracuse as the top five runners finished only 19 seconds apart, but Gary Martin’s 2nd place finish was enough to keep Virginia ahead.
The Orange women had a tough day in Louisville finishing in 13th place. Syracuse was led by Selma Anderson’s 20th place finish. NC State reclaimed the ACC title and now the Orange have to regroup for next week’s Northeast Regional race in New Hampshire. Both squads will be expected to qualify for the NCAA Championships, which are in Missouri later this month.
Women’s Ice Hockey (5-6, 3-1)
Syracuse had one game last week and it was a 5-0 loss at Cornell. This was the first road loss of the season for the Orange and they will look to bounce back this weekend with a two-game series at Lindenwood.
