The Golden State Warriors open the new year with Friday night’s matchup against the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder. The game will be played at 7:00 PM PT in San Francisco and can be watched on Prime
Video and NBC Sports Bay Area.
Previously with the Warriors:
The Warriors ended 2025 on a high note after defeating the Charlotte Hornets on New Years Eve, 132-125. Steph Curry scored 26 points for the Warriors in his Charlotte homecoming on 5-of-10 shooting from the three-point line. However, Charlotte countered with several strong individual performances of their own, as Brandon Miller finished with 32 points, LaMelo Ball added 27, and rookie Kon Knueppel chipped in 20.
Golden State trailed by two entering the fourth quarter, but three timely three-pointers from Brandin Podziemski — along with a strong defensive stand from the closing lineup of Curry, De’Anthony Melton, Will Richard, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green — helped the Warriors pull away with the win.
What to watch for tonight:
The Warriors begin the 2026 calendar year with a difficult test against the Thunder. Facing the team with the best record in the NBA would already be a challenge, but Golden State is expected to be undermanned on this first night of a back-to-back. Their start trio of Green (rest), Curry (ankle), and Butler (illness) are all ruled out for Friday’s game as the team opts to have them ready tomorrow against the 12-21 Utah Jazz.
With the Warriors short-handed, there could be an opportunity for forward Jonathan Kuminga to see the floor. The fifth-year wing hasn’t played in nine of the team’s last 10 games, but his athleticism against an Oklahoma City team that thrives on athleticism, length and physicality could help as Golden State attempts to push its winning streak to three games.
