FIRST HALF ANALYSIS:
Nebraska started out with a 7-0 run. This looked like it was going to be an easy walk-through early. Le Moyne then countered with a 12-3 run to take a two-point lead into the under 16 timeout. Ty Francis led the Dolphins with 5 early points. Le Moyne started off 5-7 from the floor but steadily cooled off as the half worn on. Nebraska would take the lead with just under 13 minutes left in the half and not look back.
The Huskers did a great job of sharing the basketball, as they would use a 12-0 run
to blow the door open. Nebraska would also open up the door by shooting the ball really well, as they would shoot over 60% from the floor for the half. Nebraska would finish the half on an 11-0 run over the final 2:47 to take a 26 point lead into the half.
FIRST HALF STATS:
Le Moyne shot 12-29 for 41% from the floor. They were 6-14 for 43% from deep and 2-2 from the free-throw line. The Dolphins collected 10 rebounds, but only 1 was offensive. Le Moyne had 10 assists to 6 turnovers.
The Dolphins were led by Trevor Roe, who had 14 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Ty Francis had 5 points while Jayden Teat had 3 rebounds and 3 assists to tie Roe in those categories.
Nebraska shot 20-32 for 63% from the floor. They were 6-14 for 43% from deep and 12-16 for 75% from the free-throw line. The Huskers collected 22 rebounds, 6 of which were offensive. They had 11 assists to 4 turnovers. Nebraska had 17 bench points.
The Huskers were led by Pryce Sandfort, who had 16 points. Cale Jacobsen had 14. Sandfort also led the way with 5 rebounds. Trevan Leonhardt had 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
SECOND HALF ANALYSIS:
Nebraska and Le Moyne would trade buckets for the opening couple of minutes, but Nebraska would extend the lead to 30 just after the under 16 timeout. Roe would not go quietly for the Dolphins, as he would lead Le Moyne in points. He was about the only one as the Huskers would eventually show the overall talent gap. Both teams would trade 3-point baskets on 3 consecutive possessions, which led to some fun.
Nebraska would slowly empty the bench, the biggest name being Connor Essegian, as he got his first regular season minutes since his ankle injury that prematurely ended his season last year. 11 Huskers eventually got on the score sheet, which is great in a game that the talent gap is big.
FINAL STATS AND THOUGHTS:
Le Moyne shot 22-56 for 39% from the floor. They went 10-29 for 34% from deep and 10-13 for 77% from the free-throw line. The Dolphins collected 29 rebounds, 7 of which were offensive. Le Moyne had 17 assists and 17 turnovers. They had just 9 bench points.
The Dolphins were led by Trevor Roe, who had 20 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. He led all 3 categories. Jayden Teat had 14 points and 5 assists, while Ty Francis contributed 6 rebounds and Leandro Gysel had 5 assists.
Nebraska shot 35-65 for 54% from the floor. They went 14-30 for 47% from deep and 22-28 for 79% from the free-throw line. The Huskers collected 40 rebounds, 12 of which were offensive. Nebraska had 24 assists to just 8 turnovers. They had 11 steals and 48 bench points.
The Huskers were led by Pryce Sandfort, who had 20 points. Cale Jacobsen had 16. Trevan Leonhardt, Sandfort and Jacob Lanier each had 5 rebounds. Leonhardt led the way with 7 assists. Jacobsen had 3 steals.
This one was fairly straightforward after the opening 8 minutes. The Huskers took control with the use of a 12-0 run and never looked back. 5 Huskers got into double figures tonight, with impressive showings by Wilkinson and Lanier. Essegian’s 13 points in the final 7 minutes was solid, as this will certainly help his confidence as he plays his way back into fitness. I was impressed by how quickly the team seems to have gelled, but there will be stiffer tests soon.
Overall, this was exactly what I was looking for from Nebraska. Get a big lead, play plenty of guys and get some feel good points by guys who don’t play much. It was also good to see the transfers who have come in and play well. Each guy seems to know his role on the team and buying into that right away bodes well for Nebraska. The Huskers will face Providence on Saturday, November 7th at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut in a neutral site game. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and will air on FS1.
