The inevitable happened last night: the San Francisco Firebells advanced to the WPBL Championship!
Unlike in game one, the Firebells did not allow the Boston Hunters any glimmer of hope in game two. A two-out bases loaded single from Joely Leguizamon in the top of the first gave the Firebells the lead and the Hunters were never able to catch up. The Firebells would tack on another eight runs before all was said and done to take the win nine to six.
Tonight, the Los Angeles Queens and New York Heights will meet for the second time in the semifinals series in order to determine who the Firebells opponent in the Championship series next week.
The Queens took game one of their series in convincing fashion on Thursday night.
Similar to the Firebells victory last night, the Queens would get on the board in the top of the first with a two-out solo home from Ashton Lansdell. The Heights eventually scored some late runs but were never able to come within two runs of the Queens lead after the fourth. In the end, the Queens took game one with a final score of ten to three.
Tonight, the Queens have a chance to punch their ticket to the Championship series with a win in game two. The Heights will look to flip that script and force a game three. Game three, if it comes to that, will be on Monday night.
