The summer transfer window promises to be a busy and crucial period for Barcelona as the club looks to make the right moves to give Hansi Flick the best possible squad next season, and the coach is already thinking about what needs to be done on the market.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Flick spoke about the search for a player to fill the number 9 spot next season and also shed light on the status of Roony Bardghji, who hasn’t played nearly as much as he wants and is heavily linked with
a loan move in the summer to play more minutes elsewhere.
“It’s not the time to talk about it; we have some clear ideas, but it’s not the right time. We talk to Deco every day. By phone, that’s how it is. We’re also focusing on next season, which is normal.
“For [Roony], he’s a fantastic professional. The situation isn’t easy for him. He’s hoping for more playing time. Sometimes it’s like that; he has one of the best in the world ahead of him.
“He’s an extraordinary player, he plays with the best in the world, and he’s also improved a lot. I already told him we’d talk at the end of the season. Everyone is important, and we need them motivated.”
It’s natural that Flick won’t want to address the transfer plans directly and that clinching the La Liga title should be the number one priority for the next few weeks, but it’s good to know that the coach is pretty well involved in the transfer business.
As for Roony, he does deserve to play more and has shown more than enough in his limited playing time to prove he has a place at Barça, but it’s not easy being Lamine Yamal’s backup. A move away might help him develop at a crucial stage of his career, so we’ll see what the future holds to the talented Swede.
