On Thursday, the Washington Commanders announced that quarterback Jayden Daniels has been ruled out for the team’s Monday Night Football contest against the Kansas City Chiefs due to a recent hamstring injury. The Commanders will host the Seattle Seahawks at Northwest Stadium for Sunday Night Football in Week 9.
Daniels was taken out in the third quarter of Sunday’s 44-22 loss vs. the Dallas
Cowboys, completing 12 of 22 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 35 yards and another TD before exiting with a hamstring strain. Per ESPN’s John Keim, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn says that Daniels’s injury “was not significant,” but the team is choosing to have him sit for MNF to avoid worsening his condition.
Daniels’s health has been a source of concern for Washington for much of this season, as this will be the third game that he has missed in 2025. The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year previously suffered a knee injury in Week 2, which prompted backup QB Marcus Mariota into action for the next two games. Quinn has named Mariota as the starter for Week 8, which will be the 32-year-old’s third start of the season.
In addition to Daniels, the Commanders have also been keeping tabs on several of their wide receivers, including Terry McLaurin, who has missed four games with a quad injury. Barring any further roadblocks, McLaurin is set to join the team for practice this week, as reported by Keim on Thursday.
If Daniels’s status worsens next week, the Seahawks may be seeing Mariota under center in Week 9.
