Leon Edwards vs. Carlos Prates squared off in a Welterweight bout earlier tonight (Sat., Nov. 15, 2025) at UFC 322 inside Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. In a sensational finish, Prates became
the first man to knock out “Rocky.”
Edwards opened the contest with some early low kicks as both men worked to find their range. Then, he connected first upstairs with a nice left hand. “Rocky” then timed a takedown entry well, but Prates was able to deny the shot. On the break, the Brazilian slugger answered with a heavy low kick of his own then a heavy knee to the body. Edwards pressed forward and blasted Prates off his feet with a lovely double leg to gain top position, taking the back as Prates tried to scramble to his feet. With 10 seconds remaining, he went hard for the rear naked choke but didn’t secure the strangle.
It was a strong start from the former champion.
Prates found success early in round two with some chopping low kicks. His lead hand began to find the mark as well with stabbing jabs and clubbing check hooks. Edwards fired back with a hard counter connection, but Prates answered with a GIGANTIC straight left hand! Edwards hit the floor in an absolute heap, and Prates became the first man to knock out the former champion.
This was spectacular work from Prates, who might just be the biggest hitter in 170-pound history. He crow-hopped beautifully into the left hand that finished the fight, catching Edwards completely off-guard. Honestly, the fact that Edwards fought so well in the opening round only makes the victory more impressive. This was not a “washed” former champion.
Edwards looked damn sharp until Carlos Prates knocked him cold. Did the Brazilian just jump the line for the next Welterweight title shot?
Result: Prates defeats Edwards via knockout
